This past Saturday, 5 November, Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet’s 𝗨/𝟵𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗧 side played a 30-over match against Graeme College.

Although there was some uncertainty about whether the game will continue or not as rainclouds were threatening overhead for most of the morning, the sun came out just as the Union team was arriving in Grahamstown and the game could, luckily, continue.

The captains proceeded to do the coin toss, which Union won and then elected to field.

This was a very high score but our boys took up the challenge and fought back bravely.

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘 to Morgan Jacobs and Raydon Hendricks for taking 4 wickets each and to Edwin van Greunen for taking 2 wickets.

When the Union side went it to bat, they lost some of their higher ranking batsmen early on in the game, but the partnership between Harry Watson and Morgan Jacobs set them back on track and the team continued to put up a good fight.

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘 to Harry on making 85 runs. (𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 50 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵.)

Union managed to make 153 runs in total which, unfortunately, wasn’t enough to win the game – Union lost the game by 29 runs.

• Union extends its thank to Mr Wayne Murray for driving the team to Grahamstown and back safely – we appreciate his time and effort spent in aid of the school.
