Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s annual ๐๐จ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ฅ fundraising initiative was hosted at the school on Friday morning, 21 October, much to the excitement of the learners of the school.
The kids were all encouraged to wear yellow and white to school to raise awareness of childhood cancer and could buy delicious freshly-baked cupcakes in support of the Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer non-profit organisation.
This fundraiser is a very special one for the school, as it was originally started to honour one of UPS’s own, Alex Short (๐ค๐ถ๐ณ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ญ๐บ ๐ข ๐ท๐ช๐ฃ๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ 6 ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ข๐ต ๐๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐๐ช๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ญ) who was diagnosed with Nephroplastoma (Wilm’s Tumor) when she was only 5-years-old. She had to receive 12 gruelling chemo sessions as well as radiation, but has since been in remission and is loving life.
The ๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐๐ฝ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ๐, made with love by a group of moms, managed to raise a significant amount that will be donated towards treatment for children with cancer.
A special ๐ช๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐๐๐ก๐๐ฆ is extended to the learners and parents of Union Preparatory School for their amazing support.
