Itโs been another exciting week of cricket for Union High School, Graaff-Reinetโs junior cricket teams, with our young players showing great skill, teamwork and sportsmanship across all age groups.
๐ง๐จ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ฌ, ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ข๐๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ฅ:
Unionโs ๐จ๐ญ๐ญ๐ side produced a superb all-round performance to defeat Cradock Primary by 47 runs.
Union set a strong total of 99/2, thanks to a fine partnership between Mark Copeman (34*) and Ben Wormald (32). The bowlers then took charge, with Copeman (4/8), Liam Raath (2/2) and Kevin de Klerk (2/10) leading the attack to bowl Cradock out for 52.
The ๐จ๐ญ๐ฏ๐ team followed up with a dominant 100-run victory over Cradock.
Union posted 149/6, with standout batting from Edwin Holmes (45*), Dante Mills (38) and Kari Stern (24). The bowlers wrapped up the win in style, dismissing Cradock for 49, with Nathaneal Phillips (3/9) and Josh Kingwill (2/5) taking key wickets.

Unionโs youngest cricketers also had plenty to celebrate in their matches against Volkskool.
The ๐จ๐ณ๐ team claimed a 20-run victory, while the ๐จ๐ณ๐ match ended in an exciting tie!
The ๐จ๐ต๐ boys impressed in their first hard ball match, bowling and fielding beautifully to restrict Volkskool to 66/9. Union chased down the target confidently, reaching 67/2 in 15.3 overs, led by Ruben Bester (26*) and John Kingwill (14), securing a well-deserved 8-wicket win.
In a nail-biting ๐จ๐ญ๐ญ๐ encounter, Union fell just short by 4 runs in a thrilling finish. Volkskool posted 81/4, with wickets shared between Iminathi Sididi (2), Kevin de Klerk and Mark Copeman. Union replied with 77/7, with Michael Maritz (18) top-scoring in a valiant chase.
The ๐จ๐ญ๐ฏ๐ team ended the week on a high with a 159-run victory!
Union piled on 215/3, thanks to Dante Mills (122 off 66) and Josh Kingwill (60 off 47). In reply, Volkskool were bowled out for 56, with Kingwill (3/5), Phillips (3/12) and Sintayu Kaitro (2/5) all starring with the ball.
A very special milestone was also reached – ๐๐ผ๐๐ต ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ฟ๐๐ป๐ as an u/13 cricketer over the past two seasons, an outstanding achievement that reflects his consistency and dedication to the game.
