There is something uniquely special about Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s annual ๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐๐๐ข๐ข๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ, affectionately known as the White Scarf Ceremony, that never changes from one year to the next.
๐๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด๐ ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ผ๐ด๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ, celebrates the traditions that have shaped our schools and reminds our youngest learners what it means to be part of the Union family.
The morning began with the entrance of our Union High School, Graaff-Reinet 1st rugby and hockey teams, followed by a special presentation of the Interschools’ white scarves by our U9 rugby and U10 hockey players to the senior teams – ๐ข ๐ด๐ช๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ต ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ๐ง๐ถ๐ญ ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ต๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐จ ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ต๐ธ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฏ ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ช๐ต๐ฆ๐ด.
Messages of welcome, Scripture and prayer, a devotion by Pastor Simon van der Pol, and encouraging words from UPS Principal Mr Ross Hulleman, our head prefects and first team captains ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ณ๐น๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐น๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐น๐.
The assembly came alive as learners proudly sang our school songs, joined in spirited war cries and listened to Mrs Edwardine Abader’s moving performance of ‘We Belong to Union’ as well as ‘Union’s Call’ performed by Mrs Katie Kotze and Miss Jamie Birch, before the 1st teams were led out to ‘Stand Up for the Champions’.
