This past Thursday and Friday evening, 22 and 23 August, saw Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s Grade 1 to 4 learners taking to the stage in the school’s 2024 adaptation of 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀.
The two-night performance was a resounding success, with both evenings sold out, showcasing the incredible talent and hard work of our little performers.
Narrated by the dynamic duo of 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲 and 𝗞𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽, this classic musical adaptation was a delightful blend of nostalgia and fresh charm. Audiences were treated to the enchanting story of Princess Snow White, beautifully portrayed by 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗺, whose grace and talent captured the hearts of everyone in attendance.
Alongside her was the dashing prince, played by 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇, whose performance added a touch of romance to the fairy tale.
The production was rich with memorable characters, including the fierce and formidable evil queen, 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗱𝗶 𝗠𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗹𝗲, who brought a captivating villainy to the stage. Of course, no rendition of this timeless tale would be complete without the seven dwarves, who were brilliantly brought to life by 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗭𝗼𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝘆𝘀, 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆, 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘁, 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀𝗵𝘂 and 𝗟𝗶𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗶. Their playful antics and camaraderie were a highlight of the show, delighting the audience with their mischievous spirit.
Adding to the whimsical atmosphere was a hilarious pet tortoise, portrayed by 𝗝𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴, and an enchanting blue birdie, played by 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀, who reminded everyone of the magic that surrounds fairy tales. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦, 𝘦𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘰𝘦-𝘵𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨.
The production also featured talented performances from 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 as the Magic Mirror, and 𝗨𝘇𝗶𝗮𝗵 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲 as the Huntsman, whose presence added depth and drama to the narrative. The Huntsman’s helpers, 𝗭𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁 and 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻, complemented the story perfectly, creating moments of tension and excitement.
One of the standout moments of the evening was Prince Charming’s heartfelt rendition of John Denver’s “Perhaps Love,” performed by Michael Maritz, a performance that melted hearts!
As the curtains fell on this spectacular production, the applause echoed, celebrating the magic of theater and the bright futures of these little learners.
The success of the show is a testament to the dedication of the Union Preparatory School teachers, the learners and everyone involved in bringing this magical production to life.
