We are heartbroken to share the very sad news of the unexpected passing of Mr Dave Stern, Union Preparatory School’s Governing Body chairperson.

His death has left a void in the Union community which can never be filled. His love for the school as an Old Unionite and parent of the school, coupled with a determined sense of purpose, meant that he gave of himself to the school completely and his friendship, wisdom and commitment will be missed by all.

During his tenure as chairperson, Dave contributed enormously to the success of the school. He was drawn to and nurtured the community feel of the school; he found a group of colleagues to work with who shared his enthusiasm for the school’s potential and the development of the learners; he revelled in the extra-curricular programme, which he felt so important to the wider purpose of the school.

We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Dave’s family and friends, in particular his two young daughters, Kari and Micela, and his wife Maryke. We pray for comfort and peace for each of them.

As we manage our grief, we ask that you please keep the Stern family in your prayers. We wish them strength at this sad time.
