On the crisp morning of Friday, 9 August, Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet hosted its much-loved Interschools’ Assembly, a tradition that continues to bring the Union community together year after year.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭’𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴, 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 – 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 – 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴.
The assembly began with a stirring entrance by the high school’s 1st rugby and hockey teams, setting the stage for what would be an unforgettable morning. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀, 𝗮 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.
Principal 𝗠𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻 then took the podium, offering a warm and gracious welcome to all present.
Special messages from Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s Head Prefects, 𝗖𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗮𝗵-𝗟𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗞𝗼𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴 and 𝗡𝗮’𝗲𝗲𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱, followed – each delivering heartfelt speeches that reflected the spirit of leadership and responsibility that defines Union. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦.
The assembly continued with addresses by the 1st team hockey captain, 𝗦𝗮𝗱é 𝗠𝗮𝘆, who spoke with passion and pride, embodying the determination and sportsmanship of Union’s teams. The energy in the dome reached a peak with the spirited war cries from the younger teams, whose enthusiasm and school spirit were infectious.
A standout highlight of the morning was, without a doubt, the stunning performance by 𝗠𝗿𝘀 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿. Her rendition of the song ‘Union’s Call’ was nothing short of spectacular, creating a moment that sent chills through the audience – a true “goosebumps” experience that will be remembered for years to come.
𝗔𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲, 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. It was a morning filled with pride, tradition and a deep sense of community, reminding everyone of the unique and cherished spirit of the Union Schools.
