On Saturday, 24 February, Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s u/9A cricketers traveled to Komani to face their Laerskool Hangklip Primary counterparts in a 30-over match.
The day started well for Union as their captain, Trenn Naudé, won the toss and elected to bat.
The hosts quickly gained the upper hand, however, with a strong bowling attack, putting pressure on the Union boys. As a result, wickets fell at regular intervals, and the team struggled to form substantial partnerships.
In the end, Union could only manage a total of 75 runs, being bowled out in just 13.5 overs.

Defending such a small total was always going to be a challenge, especially with the strong wind that picked up after the innings change.
The Union bowlers found it difficult to adapt to the conditions, resulting in a high number of extras conceded, which made the run chase easier for Hangklip. Hangklip reached the target of 76 runs in the 17th over with only 4 wickets down. Trenn Naudé took 2 wickets, while Richter de Wet and Mark Copeman also made valuable contributions with the ball.
