Bruce Cumming

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Cumming on 3 January 2024.
𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟳.
He loved his role and was passionate about his learners both in the classroom and on the sports field. He was also a dedicated hostel master at Herby Arnott House, teaming up with his wife, Gillian Cumming, who served as head matron. Bruce quickly fell in love with the Karoo culture, made many of his closest and dearest friends in Graaff-Reinet, and continued his passion for road running with the local running club.
Bruce and Gill retired to Knysna in 1998, where he spent many happy years fishing, braaing and being mesmerised by the birds in his garden. Bruce loved and was fascinated by people and he could light up a room with his easy laughter and twinkle in his eye.
To his family, he was a loving, dedicated and supportive husband and father.
