Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s annual 𝗖𝗨𝗣𝗖𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗥 fundraising initiative was hosted at the school on Friday morning, 21 October, much to the excitement of the learners of the school.
The kids were all encouraged to wear yellow and white to school to raise awareness of childhood cancer and could buy delicious freshly-baked cupcakes in support of the Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer non-profit organisation.
This fundraiser is a very special one for the school, as it was originally started to honour one of UPS’s own, Alex Short (𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦 6 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘵 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭) who was diagnosed with Nephroplastoma (Wilm’s Tumor) when she was only 5-years-old. She had to receive 12 gruelling chemo sessions as well as radiation, but has since been in remission and is loving life.
The 𝟭𝟬𝟲𝟬 𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗰𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀, made with love by a group of moms, managed to raise a significant amount that will be donated towards treatment for children with cancer.
A special 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞𝗦 is extended to the learners and parents of Union Preparatory School for their amazing support.
