Several of our Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet swimmers competed in the 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥-𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔 held on Tuesday, 1 November, where the top swimmers in the Karoo, Albany and Amathola districts gather annually to test their mettle in the water.

𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘰𝘭𝘥, 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘻𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘴. They were awarded their medals at a recent whole-school assembly.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼:

• 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝘀 – Gold Girls u/9 50m Freestyle and Gold Girls u/9 50m Backstroke. 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙏𝙖𝙮𝙡𝙤𝙧 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙖 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙪/9 50𝙢 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙠𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙 (44.50𝙨).

• 𝗞𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗮𝗿𝘀𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗱 – Bronze Girls u/9 Freestyle and Silver Girls u/9 Backstroke

• 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻 – Bronze Girls u/9 Breaststroke

These girls – along with Laer Volkskool swimmer Nelé Wolfaardt – also claimed a silver medal in the 50m Girls u/9 Medley Relay, while Taylor and Klara and Nelé – along with Gill swimmer Amore Fourie – earned a Silver in the 50m Girls u/9 Freestyle Relay.

• 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗛𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲 both swam the 50m Girls u/10 Freestyle Relay with Gill swimmer Mari Moolman and homeschooler Nina Pieterse where they claimed Gold.

Amelia also participated in the 50m Girls u/10 Medley Relay with Nina Pieterse, Annabel Kruger and Mari Moolman, where they, once again, claimed Gold.

• 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗼 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻 – Silver in the 50m Boys u/9 Breaststroke and Bronze in the 50m Boys u/9 Backstroke.

• 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 – Silver in the 50m Boys u/9 Freestyle.

• 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 – Silver in the 50m Boys u/9 Backstroke.

All three boys also competed in the 50m Boys u/9 Freestyle Relay – along with LVS swimmer JJ van Schalkwyk – where they claimed Gold. They also took first place in the 50m Boys u/9 Medley Relay with Gill swimmer, Daniel Lotter.

Union is so 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗗 of all our swimmers who committed and gave their time to swim for their district and would like to thank them for their stellar efforts.
