Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet is extremely proud of our chess stars, siblings ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ผ and ๐๐ด๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐๐๐ผ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฎ, whose dedication and talent continue to impress.
During the December holidays, both learners competed individually in the ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ถ ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ๐, held from 15 to 20 December 2025 in Gqeberha. Paballo was also selected for the Eastern Cape u10A team, which placed second overall, earning her provincial colours.

Since returning to school this year, they have continued to excel at trials, with Pabi (now u12) and Thatso (u10) both achieving top results and securing places in the Spartan Bishops 2026 SBD team for the ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ in Jeffreys Bay (1 to 3 May).
Pabi has also been selected for ๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐๐ต ๐๐ณ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎโ๐ ๐๐๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐บ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ, taking place from 28 March to 2 April in the North West.
