This past Thursday and Friday evening, 22 and 23 August, saw Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet‘s Grade 1 to 4 learners taking to the stage in the school’s 2024 adaptation of
The two-night performance was a resounding success, with both evenings sold out, showcasing the incredible talent and hard work of our little performers.
Narrated by the dynamic duo of ๐ง๐ต๐ผ๐บ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ฒ and ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ง๐ฟ๐ผ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ฝ, this classic musical adaptation was a delightful blend of nostalgia and fresh charm. Audiences were treated to the enchanting story of Princess Snow White, beautifully portrayed by ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ป ๐ง๐ฎ๐บ, whose grace and talent captured the hearts of everyone in attendance.
Alongside her was the dashing prince, played by ๐ ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฒ๐น ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐, whose performance added a touch of romance to the fairy tale.
The production was rich with memorable characters, including the fierce and formidable evil queen, ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ ๐ ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฎ๐ต๐น๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ, who brought a captivating villainy to the stage. Of course, no rendition of this timeless tale would be complete without the seven dwarves, who were brilliantly brought to life by ๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐น๐ถ๐ป ๐ฃ๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ, ๐ญ๐ผ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐๐๐, ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐บ๐ฎ ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐, ๐ฅ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ป, ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ป๐ฎ๐ต ๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ช๐ฎ๐น๐, ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐๐บ๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ด๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐๐ต๐ and ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ฑ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ. Their playful antics and camaraderie were a highlight of the show, delighting the audience with their mischievous spirit.
Adding to the whimsical atmosphere was a hilarious pet tortoise, portrayed by ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐น๐๐ป ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด, and an enchanting blue birdie, played by ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ช๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐น๐, who reminded everyone of the magic that surrounds fairy tales.
The production also featured talented performances from ๐ง๐ฎ๐๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ง๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด as the Magic Mirror, and ๐จ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ต ๐ช๐ถ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐บ๐๐ฒ as the Huntsman, whose presence added depth and drama to the narrative. The Huntsmanโs helpers, ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ and ๐ ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐น๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป, complemented the story perfectly, creating moments of tension and excitement.
One of the standout moments of the evening was Prince Charming’s heartfelt rendition of John Denver’s “Perhaps Love,” performed by Michael Maritz, a performance that melted hearts!
As the curtains fell on this spectacular production, the applause echoed, celebrating the magic of theater and the bright futures of these little learners.
The success of the show is a testament to the dedication of the Union Preparatory School teachers, the learners and everyone involved in bringing this magical production to life.
