Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/10A hockey team recently embarked on a memorable tour to the Western Cape, leaving Graaff-Reinet on Sunday morning and staying in Paarl for the duration.
𝗢𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗢𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗻 before their first game in the afternoon against Paarl Girls Primary, where despite struggling initially, they secured a 3-1 victory.
𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀. They began with a strong 4-0 win over Panorama Primary School, followed by a challenging game against a well-coached Durbanville Primary team, resulting in a 3-1 loss.
The girls bounced back with an impressive 8-1 victory against Durbanville Curro, showcasing their dominance from the start.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝟳-𝟮 𝘄𝗶𝗻, despite it being their fourth match of the day. On Wednesday morning, the team faced Laerskool Stellenbosch on a small indoor field. Despite conceding three quick goals, the girls displayed tremendous determination and sportsmanship, fighting back to draw the game 4-4.
Throughout the tour, the girls demonstrated outstanding resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship, making the experience both on and off the field invaluable for their development.
