Get ready for a heartwarming tale of pure 𝗦𝗢𝗖𝗖𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗚𝗜𝗖!
On Friday, 24 November, 11 little learners from Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet participated in a local 7-a-side soccer festival – the Montego Cares U9 Champs 4 Change.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘁, 𝗞𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗞𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲, 𝗜𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗶, 𝗢𝘄𝗮𝗺 𝗞𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗶, 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗸𝗶𝘀𝗼, 𝗝𝗮𝗾𝘄𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗜𝘀𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗟𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵, 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗵, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝗴𝗼 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻.
Although they faced teams who had been training forever and knew the game inside out, these boys took on the challenge head-on, giving it their all on the field. They didn’t have fancy footwork or intricate strategies, but they made up for it with their guts and determination.
𝙏𝙝𝙚𝘆 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙖 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩-𝙠𝙣𝙞𝙩 𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙜, 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨.
𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘁 was an absolute beast on the field, scoring goals left and right, while 𝗞𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗞𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲 brought the heat with his passion and work ethic, making sure Union stayed in the game. And 𝗜𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗶? He was a defensive genius, shutting down the opposition and inspiring his teammates to keep pushing forward. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻’s exceptional goalkeeping skills proved vital to the Union team’s success in the tournament. Despite his young age, Mark displayed incredible reflexes, agility and composure between the posts. His ability to make crucial saves and distribute the ball effectively played a crucial role in keeping the team in contention.
